Hi Orcun. You already did the comparison. But comparing the MR2 to the TI variant was a much needed comparison since they cost the same. The UA5 is more expensive. Far as sound you nailed it. What makes the UA5 more expensive is the onboard screen features and the hybrid battery inclusion.

before shanling ua5 compared with moonriver 2(not ti). but it is inappropriate comparison.Because ua5 warm and moonriver 2 cold and flat.but now revised model moonriver 2 ti position same category, warm and joyable revision

Hi Bummer Boy. Don’t be a bummer hehe. The right answer here is yes and no. PCM uses multibit and DSD uses single bit but both use quantization so we’re comparing gasoline to kerosine here, same base, different formula. Most DACs can handle those two formats but not others. If they were very different in general that wouldn’t be possible. I do say that you’re right in that I should have used more specific words and should avoid making simple minded comments like that in the future. Thanks for chiming in.

Is completely wrong and misleading. DSD is an entirely different way of encoding sound and doesn’t play along anything.

Hello Mahesh. Sorry but I can’t say because I don’t have those two dongles. But I trust my colleague and our readers as well which gave the RU7 a higher score. Remember, we score but we just give a general score. The final score is determined by our readers and their vote.

How does it compare with cayin Ru7 and the new powerful Tempotec-Sonata BHD Pro (not the old but the new version)

Lol, apparently my internet is terrible and I can only see commentson occasion here. Thank you for the responses. I was mistaken thinking the Shio was reviewed here but I don’t believe I’m mistaken in the fact this dac chip doesn’t do the amplification in the Shio. The Shio uses its own dedicated amp circuitry. I’m just not sure it’s the same as what’s used here.

I was mistaken about the Shio being reviewed here so the official reply was warranted but the other reply was incorrect and I was hoping to have it visible to debate with the pcb images and datasheets.

Actually, if you look at both circuits the Moondrop uses 2 LM6863D chips for amplification while the SHIO seems to only rely on the SOC’s built-in amplification. That’s why the power output is higher but the consequence is that it also uses up more source power.

It wasn’t compared to the Shio because we do not have the Shio to compare it with.
