I wanted to point out that you can indeed get a balanced headphone output from the Chord Hugo TT2, by using the dual XLRs on the rear of the unit. You will need a special cord adapter to convert from dual 3-pin XLR to a 4-pin XLR – and if you manage to make or get a hold of one, the output should deliver around 18 watts(!) of balanced headphone power. Enough to even power small bookshelf or efficient speakers. I made one myself so if you want to know more about how, let me know. This way it would be more of a fair comparison using a balanced connection to your headphones.

Thanks Ian. I had thought about it but felt keeping it all solid-state was preferable. Mind you the TT2 was our award winner from last year and Formula S from a few years back so all in good company I guess.

Also these are 2 amps with recent scores very close to the dCS.
