Good review, that was a nice read! :)
Probably because of the shortage on AKM chips, Violectric already replaced these 2 units with V380² and V590². It’s the same amp stage inside but the DAC part is now ESS-based with two ES9026Pro per channel. The resampling control on the facade is gone too.

It does not make these units less interesting but potential buyers reading this review should be aware of this change.

In reply to RS. I have the V550 Pro which is the same relay as on the Nimbus. The problem has been fixed. No such crackling or noise on my unit.

I don’t have this particular model but i have it’s non internal dac sibling the v550 with the mojo as a dac. Quite a nice headphone amp. It’s a pleasant listening experience with the HD800 as it tames the peaky highs of the HD800 which are unpleasant to the ears

The Niimbus volume control has some pretty severe noise problems when turning the dial, like very loud crackling electrical noises.
Otherwise, the sound quality is superb in every way.
Does the 590 have this problem? Has Lake People fixed this problem?

Nice review. This looks interesting, and glad you included a comparison with their older amp & DAC models.

The V380 appears to have the exact same DAC section and amp stage, just with simpler, fewer control options and no balanced XLR inputs, but going for much less? I’m thinking that seems like a good value for money option. Finding somewhere to try a V380 or V590 will probably be the hard part for me.
