Hi Utsav, glad you love the E3 and happy we could help you out in your choice. Well, all heads are different, I guess I got lucky with that. Good to know the pad worked, its something I do also with Abyss Diana headphones to great effect.

I’m absolutely loving it with the Topping D50III / A50III stack and the iFi hip-dac 3 when I travel, and somewhat less so with my Woo Audio WA7 (though I can’t articulate why, but everything sounds mushed together and the amp doesn’t get loud enough for me).

The only difference of opinion I have is with respect to the comfort. Out of the box, the head strap is exceptionally uncomfortable – after 15-20 minutes, I felt like something was cutting into my skull. A $14 headband pad from Amazon fixed this for me. (Glad it did, or I would have had to part with them.)

Can you re-read my reply?

I stated “However, the basics specs suggest there shouldn’t be an issue driving the E3 with up to 1.125W of output power.”.

Marcus,

I am very surprised by your reply, according to the fact you clearly mentioned in the DAP Synergy regarding the E3, the following ones :

– Hiby RS8 : 0.780W and Cayin N8ii : 0.750W

These have a much lower power than the M9 Plus : 1.125W…

Hi Frabera, thank you for your kind comments :)

Actually, someone else reviewed the M9 Plus so I cannot tell you how it will pair tonally. However, the basics specs suggest there shouldn’t be an issue driving the E3 with up to 1.125W of output power.

Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot for your nice review, for me the best one regarding the E3, I would love to purchase this great Headphone, I own a Shanling M9 Plus you review a few months ago, I will be most greatful if you could advise me about this combo.

Hi Ed, I was expecting your comment :)

I did try the RS6 briefly and I thought the tonal pairing was very nice indeed. Can you get more headroom from the higher end DAPs with more juice such as your R8? Yup, but the RS6 won’t let you down either, just less resolving. Then again I doubt you bought it for exacting detail and more for the tonal qualities.

Just a side note, I was using the RS8 balanced with Turbo mode which drives a bit more voltage to the headphones. I prefer the sound of the RS8 with that on.

I think it will be ok for airplane use. I tend to find noise like that doesn’t get too far in the cabin unless its someone right beside you and even then its leakage is just slight. I dont take headphones on flights, weight considerations so I just pick the smallest decent TWS with ANC.

I have an RS6, which has only slightly less power (690 vs 780) than the RS8. You noted that “all 4 can drive the E3 to a high standard”. Would you think that the drop of 90mW be noticeable? I also have an older R8, but the RS6 is so much smaller that its what I use all the time.

Also, does the porting make the E3 unsuitable for airplane use? I try and be considerate of the people around me as I am sometimes on a plane for 8 hours, and their head is only about a foot from my headphones.

Again, thank you. I love your site.

Ah its a pity you couldn’t keep all of those beautiful headphones but I get it :) Modhouse I would love to demo someday also.

I sold both my Atrium open and closed and returned the Empyrean II that I auditioned. The E3 is just more practical.

I’ll play around now with some amp and DAC options but other than that I’m very very happy. I may jump on the Modhouse bandwagon to see what the fuss is all about but the 12 week turnaround is a bit much.
