Good observation! I have some additional thoughts after playing with the FT5 as well.

Personally, I still find the recessed design for the jack unnecessary. There are still quite a few aftermarket upgrade cables with larger plugs, and it can be confusing to determine which ones will fit and which won’t. For those who are interested, the socket hole is 9.5mm wide. Furthermore, the recessed design may not provide sufficient protection for the connectors when switching to other cables.

However, FiiO has included a soft plastic locking mechanism around the stock cable’s connector, which helps seal off air contact and prevents oxidation. In the long run and for most users, this should enhance reliability, so I consider it a practical design choice.

The cable jack deterring i dont understand why is a negative, since u can use the headphone with any aftermarket cable. Its not like the Meze 109 pro, where the jack connecting holes are too narrow, here in the fiio they are big enough for almost any cable. I know that u mean it as with other cables u cant use the unique jack endings, but really they are just plus options. Other brands dont even add this, just a single cable, so it could be a minus in every heaphone review. I would delete that negative row from this review.

Thank you for this most comprehensive review of the FT-5s. This is easily the best sound breakdown and comparison on the web. I’ll be ordering these planars shortly. Their sound signature is right up my alley. Thanks again.
